LPG installation and setup cost?
Hi guys,
I have been offered a full LPG kit second hand, I am considering it for my 850 T-5R. Does anyone know how much it would cost roughly to get it installed and set up by a profesional? Whats the deal with having a certificate etc? Do I only get one of those if its a new system? If I get it installed by a pro, would they give me a safety certificate? Many thanks, Yoda960 |

First what sort of system is it, you can't use older LPG systems with a turbo car, it needs to be a sequential multipoint injection system which is also capable of flowing a lot of gas to the injectors to keep up with the demands of the engine. If it can't then you will get switches back to petrol and/or lean running.
It would be a few days labour to do a proper install so price is very dependant on labour rates in your area. LPGA certificate just says that the system has been installed in line with the COP 11 safety standards and includes some details on the car and it's emissions, you can get the certificate on even DIY conversions as long as they meet the standard it's just a case of getting an installer to check the system and sign off on it. Hi John,
Thanks for the information. I'm in the process of getting details of the system, I can see from the pic that there are seperate lpg injectors on the inlet manifold, so that must mean a sequential multipoint system? It was on an 850 T5 before, so should be good for my T-5R? A few days labour sounds very expensive so I might not be able to go for it Does it speed things up that I can have everything off the donor vehicle related to the LPG system, eg the lpg'd inlet manifold? Many thanks, Yoda960 |

Kiran,
If it's a quality brand and the price is right, you could buy it anyway and save up to get it installed later on John |

Yes having the manifold will help as long as it's a straight swap between the cars, means yours doesn't have to be drilled. It certainly sounds like a multipoint injection kit.
I'd start ringing round some local installers for a price, also as John H has said it's important to find out what type of system it is (e.g. Romano, Prins) as the installer will want to know that at the least. Cheers, John |

You will need to find out what make of system it is as installers can only do makes they have been trained on.
You won't need the donor manifold in most cases but check with the installer you choose. A second hand kit will need to be very cheap to be worth bothering with. |
