Hill Start with electric hand brake
XC60 AWD D5 2010 Auto
Does anyone have any tips for a smooth hill start with the caravan on the back? I know that the brake will auto release when you put your foot down on the accelerator though I'm not comfortable with that I usually release first. Jim |

I've been looking at an XC60 purchase next to a Freelander 2 - to be used to tow a 1500kg caravan.
I must say that, apart from the great towing weight fiasco, seriously restricting both max tow weight and nose weight limits on the MY09, it is the electronic parking brake which most puts me off. I definitely prefer the idea of a mechanical handle which is just where I want and need it to be just below the gear handle - both for hill starts and hill pull ups, especially when towing. Is this just a case of 'what you know' and is very easy to get used to - or is it a genuine problem? Whatever, I can't for the life of me think why the switch isn't in the obvious place on the left of the steering column rather than hidden away down on the right where you have to look down to find it! |

There realy is no problem pulling away with the electric handbrake , no delays just perfect timing as you touch the accelerator , take up the drive and pull away on the flat or on a hill . Remember you only have to press the button when you want to apply it which isnt too often , the auto release makes up for that effort of pulling the button . You should try a citroen which is a real pain when it auto applies as well as releases , but that uses a crude motor and winch to pull on conventional handbrake cables and makes a racket .
