When the light output is still bad after polishing, probably the reflector is burnt/worn down by the xenon D1s lamp/bulb.
For the xc90 there are new lenses available.

I refurbish the abl-xenon headlights from the Xc/V70 2006-08/2007 and the S60 2006-2009.
Take them apart, put a new rechromed reflector in the eye and clean everything and put a new lens on the front.

I tried a 'recommended' spray lacquer after polishing my headlights and they ended up cloudy and virtually back to square one. Don't bother with it now.

When the lacquer turns cloudy, try blowing some warm air over it while it’s wet. To much moist in the air turns the lacquer milky….

Ceramic coating is supposed to be a good finishing product

I've not done it myself, just seen it mentioned on youtube a few times

such as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FhzrNrGQ41M

to be fair though when I've had plastic headlights I usually just resign myself to them being a pain in the ars£ and using a drill mounted buffer pad and compound once a year or so. my parts Elgrande is terrible for it they go practically completely yellow

Looks like my 'new' XC70 2007 has ABL- Xenon lights - at least it has the button to turn on/off the ABL feature and the light output is rubbish on dipped! How do you go about replacing the reflectors on these? Would make driving at night so much safer!

Sorry, missed the reply.

Where do you go to get these rechromed? What sort of cost are we talking about and how long do I have to wait with the car being out of action? Cheers!

Sent them to a company outside Europe.
Takes three weeks. That’s why I sent a couple, at least 6-8 for rechroming.

Cheers, guess I'll need to source some spares to send away then, or find somewhere nearer to do the deed.
