V70 alarm
Hi. would seem i have the same problem as a lot of member have had.
Alarm PCB corroded by battery. alarm.jpgpcb.jpg Now question is until i get another unit will the volvo still run ok if i leave it unplugged and out of the volvo?? Has any one tried this. i already have the service message coming up on the dash. i just need to know if the car will run ok with out the unit being in place. I have placed an advert in the wanted section of the forum but if any one has a pcb board that will fit give me a shout please. Regards a frustrated member. Other than the 'alarm service required' message and inoperative alarm, the car will run fine. As long as no-one tries to break in to the car in the meantime, nothing bad will happen.
Be wary of buying second hand units as many will be in same/worse condition as yours. I got thru about 3 or 4 before I found a perfect one. |

I have the same dreaded message appear 'alarm service required' on my V70 2001.
On contacting the Volvo dealership I've been quoted £78 diagnostic fee with a probable final invoice of £400+. (gulp) If I leave the 38 fuse in place and lock it via the key as opposed to the fob will it still drain the main battery? |

I've got the alarm service message on in one of my s60's.
It still locks ok with the remote and doesn't affect it at all when driving. All I do is press the button to get the message off the screen. Problem solved lol |

Has anyone ever had this message and just been able to change the battery without finding any corrosion?! That's what I'm hoping to be able to do...

I only saw the alarm service message a couple of times and had several false alarm triggers and I did the battery replacement about 3 weeks after the first alarm service message, but I would say I was lucky as the car was 9 years old at that point. |
