Regarding trucks and diesel cars like the 535d bmws for example .they tested a new truck and a new car like above and found that new trucks produce less emissions .trucks only Rev to 1800rpm most of the time but cars like above are revving to nearly 6k for a diesel .thats why the emissions are getting bad .trying to get diesels to be faster than petrols by revving the engines harder and producing more emissions .thats my two pence lol

Ironic or sarcastic, I don't know which, but yesterday a BBC news was in Oxford Street, reporting that such places in central London have the highest air pollution in the UK. In the background - never-ending convoys of red buses and black cabs. Yep - all diesels.
Maybe the beeb does have a spark of cynicism within. Bring back the horse and cart!

Horse and cart, hmm - then we have the problem of methane which is an even more serious pollutant to the atmosphere than CO2

But there is the advantage that the roses would grow well!

Whatever they choose it will be those in power who benefit. They will always come down on the side of whichever argument they managed to buy the most shares in first. Politicians are bought and sold by the companies who stand to benefit. Can you imagine how much money is to be made out of this. How much green tax we are all going to be paying. You coUld not make it up.

What i would like to know is why are doctors out in the fresh air with placards banning diesels?

They should use there time at work in the hospitals and also without the extra patients that diesel engines bring some may be out of a job?

Only thing I will say: my old Morris Minor's exhaust stinks far more than my Volvo 240 ever did, so technology has moved on for the better.

and the currernt volvos emissions are 100 times better than the 240 apparantly !

Don't forget just about all new petrol engines now are GDI technology , fuel injected directly into the cylinder which helps greatly with fuel consumption .

But bad for emissions...

Soot and NOx

VW will be introducing particulate filters for petrols soon... They can't get them clean enough. On the other side though, engines with indirect injection (the bog standard injection system as used since around 25 years and more) has gained fuel economy and has better emissions. Less NOx and no soot...

Or 46 years in Volvo's case... they developed the Lambda probe and used it first in 1976 just 6 years after they first used fuel injection which was/is not too different to the current non GDI systems .
