Default Acquired a V70 cheap - sadly without logbook

Do you think a Volvo dealership or Volvo themselves would be willing to furnish me with whatever service history they may or may not have on their database?

I've got a load of receipts in a document wallet, but it's not quite the same as the logbook!

I tried to register the car on MyVolvo but it didn't work. The VIN, which I know to be correct, was NOT found on the MyVolvo site - even though other online VIN checkers return correct data! Mad...

I was interested in a) what options the car came with from new and b) if the MyVolvo website might tell me if the car has had the service recalls carried out on it.

If it's been serviced in the main dealer network, history will be available.

My Volvo only goes back so far so more vehicle details would help.....

Sorry, it's a 2004 model, which according to the front page of the MyVolvo website should be OK.

Thanks - so how do I get at that info? Are the dealers happy to provide it?

If you go to the service dept at your local dealer, they can print out the history but don't expect it to contain much info. I got a copy for a previous Volvo and it was really a record of dates and mileage with no details of what work was undertaken.

ah. right. Was hoping for service history. Am worried about timing belt - i.e. when it was done! Thanks

There should be a sticker somewhere in the engine bay if it's been changed. If in doubt, change it regardless. Out of interest, how come there was no service book with the car?

Unusual, they normally say if it was a big/small service or if the timing belt was done. When I called the dealer who looked after my car (I call them all to check the records as anyone can write cambelt changed in the book...) and they gave me the lowdown like all the previous dealers have done.

As it happens I know the belt hasn't been done and isn't yet due on the 50 but will need to be done next year if the mileage continues to rise.

It isn't uncommon to find 12 year old cars with no service book, it's a pain to recover the history but I wouldn't let it be a deal breaker either. My Mothers Skoda has an electronic service history and no book; you have to log on to Skoda to view the history.

You don't need the logbook to get service info but will need to pay £25 to the DVLA for a new one. why didn't the previous owner have it?

It would appear I'm misusing terms and causing a whole world of confusion. By log book I meant service book. Not the V5C.

Sorry!!
