Was this once a timing belt label do we think?
Find it rarely bizarre but it looks like someone has ripped off this label which I think once showed the date/mileage of last timing belt change!

Some are removed when a second belt is done. Some fall victim to absent minded fiddling.
Are you worried a belt is due ? |

Very much so. I've seen nothing to suggest the belt was done recently but am hoping of course when I take it to my mechanic he'll say "this is a new belt" or "this sticker under this cover shows it's been done and doesn't need doing now". I'd rather avoid £200 if I can...obviously I'm aware of the consequences of leaving it and getting a surprise!

What engine, how old and how many miles ?
Sometimes dates and mileages are scratched into the timing belt cover , tippex on occasion. Done a bit of digging. You have a 2004 V70 ? Petrol or diesel the belt should have been replaced already on age alone. If you mileage is getting up near the 200k mark a second is not far off. Unfortunately, if in doubt get it done. If a second has been fitted recently it would be apparent to a mechanic although it will still be your choice. Last edited by Brendan W; Dec 21st, 2016 at 16:45. |

Remove the the timing cover and have a look as an old or new belt and pulleys are obvious.
The timing belt is only a part of the picture so check auxiliary belt and pulleys also and the alternator clutch pulley. Any half measures in that area is almost as pointless as doing nothing.

Whether or not that is the remains of an old timing belt sticker, who knows? What is obvious is: if it is indeed a timing belt sticker it is not a genuine Volvo one as their stickers are square. Best to change the belt anyway and be 100%sure.
