Default Early p1800 Interior Light door switch - how to remove ??

Hi All

The springs have gone on the door pillar switch that activates the interior lights when the door opens. I've undone the nuts but cant see how to remove the little switch with the plunger. I cant see any access into the inner wing - so lost as to how to get them out.

It's on a 63 Jensen p1800.

Do they screw into the bodywork?

I've rooted round and found a photo of the item on an old ebay listing and it looks a simple device but no obvious fixing for it.

Pics of the pesky thing are attached !

Any advice would be welcome.

Thanks

P;

Yes, they thread into the body, and the (inner) nut, locks the depth position and therefore the amount plunger protrudes to detect presence of the closed door.

Second picture shows the (outer) hex broken away from the threaded part...but because (in third picture) you have removed the locking nut, you can now grab and turn the threaded section from the sheetmetal to remove (use penetrant lube to help with this). Studying the whole, unbroken parts shown in last pic should allow you to picture and understand this explanation.

Good hunting!

The switch on the A pillar on my PV looks different to yours but I do remember it being a bit of a strange one - I'm pretty sure I did have to screw it out of the A pillar by gaining access from the inside of the car.

Thanks Ron
Thats a great help - I can see the logic now looking at the pic of the whole item.
I suppose if i use the two nuts together as locking nut and turn the both of them the whole switch should come out - in theory !

Mike;

To increase chances of success (defined as removal, intact and without damage), I'd try loosening the inner jamnut first...just a bit and enough to let some penetrant get to sheetmetal/threads interface, and go to work...

Good Hunting!
