Electric seat plastic cog gear Volvo 780

Hi,
I'm currently restoring a Volvo 780 Bertone and the tilt mechanism for the driver's power seat does not move due to a broken white plastic cog gear.

Take a look at the GCP 780 Catalogue;

I *think* you are looking at the fitting, Diagram on Page 923 and Parts List Page 925

I *think* its either Part 3510907 (up to chassis 10033) or 3406989 (from chassis 10034 onwards).

Neither of those parts are showing on the GCP parts search or Skandix

You will need to check whether you agree that is the part (I can't see the cog shown separately, just the fitting which appears to contain the cog).

I struggle to believe that this isn't a part from another model - although the 780 leather design is unique to the model, I'd have thought the seat frame will be a standard Volvo 700 item? in which case, search the 760 catalogue on GCP.

Failing that, I know of a 780 being broken for parts in southern France and have bought parts form the owner, so can put you in touch with him.

Searching for obscure parts seems to come with owning a 780....!

It looks like it *could* possibly be the same fitting as a 760, GCP Catalogue Pages 1008 and 1009

Part number 1331873, limited stock and 217Euro !

I'd look for a 760 being broken or speak to the guy in southern France about his 780!

I've not dismantled it, but I think the casings have the same part numbers.

Just to let you know that I have now fully operational electric seats
Thanks to TOFUFI for providing me with a spare cog wheel.

Not only the broken cog wheel was the culprit to a non functioning backrest, but also one cable that runs the pinions to tilt the backrest had disengaged in one end...Had to shorten the black plastic sleeve 1 cm so that the cable that runs inside the sleeve engaged properly to the cog.

To do this I had to take out the front seat and roll up the leather seat cover to free up the tilt motor. This electric motor is held in place with a bolt in the right side of the back rest...inside it. Two sleeves come out of it: one on the top moving the right side tilt mechanism and one on the bottom moving the left side tilt mechanism.

Taking out the seat was a bit of a Pita since it is not only bolted down to the chassi but also you have to move the seat to disengage it from some metal security tabs in each seat rail.


I have now a set of spare plastic cog wheels , valid for left or right side, if someone needs them. If so, just send me a private post.
