Default I think I have been stitched

I recently bought a 2001 XC70 which I thought was an okay buy for my budget (cheap).
I only need a run around for my two dogs and the odd run to the coast with the caravan, 20 miles.
Unfortunately I now realise I've bought a mechanical heap of s***.
On the drive back to the house the oil pressure message came up, two miles to the house.
Changed the oil pressure sensor, oil, oil and air filters. Today the transmission service message came up and after a few miles the oil pressure message too. Obviously I've taken the car back to the house only driving about 5 or 6 miles.
After letting the car stand for a while I checked the oil, okay. Then the low coolant message came up while the car was idling. Checked coolant level, okay.
I am not a mechanic and not mechanically minded. The car looks good, very clean bodywork. Engine sounds very quiet for its age.
I am now resigned to the fact that I am stuck with the beast. Loads of messages and I am thinking this will cost way too much to sort out.

You might be best to take it to a local Volvo specialist, (not a main dealer), and see what they suggest.

You don't have to commit to spending any money and you'll be better placed to decide what to do.

If it's driving ok then the warning messages might be a fault with them and not the mechanicals.

I had a load of warning signals come up because the battery and alternator were on the way out.

Changed both and now everything is fine and hunky dory!

Sorry to hear thr newd. It needs to go to someone capable of making an accurate diagnosis, be it a specialist or a main dealer.

Several threads on the forum just this week where supposed specialists were rather useless, so don't assume that the sun shines from betwixt their buttocks just because they're an indy speciliast. Ask around and see who can be trusted locally.

PS. Regardless of shere you go you will have to commit to paying for the time spent making the diagnosis, although a lot of places - including dealers - will then waive that fee if you have the work done with them,

what engine is it ?
auto/manual ?

check the Battery, IF it is a Volvo one then it will have a date on it ,,10-12 years IS possible on a gen volvo battery, i would Guess yours is on its 2nd and that Could *depending on date , be coming to the end of its useable life,
same with the alternator *if original
the transmission light/warning is going to need Dice+vida (or Other HIGH end) diagnostic equipment to tell you exactly what it is (Dice+vida will also give the how to repair That issue info) But could be down to the alternator/battery , again the use of dice+vida Will give you answers and checks to perform on both , to find out What.

first port of call , where in the world are you and see if any on here can recommend a decent indy near you to read all the codes from the car

Dice - the communications box From computer to car
Vida the software On the computer to talk to ALL the systems in the car, the parts listing for that car, the workshop manual on how to remove/repair/replace Everything on that car
