v70 2.0d tyre sizes / fitment
hi all I have a 2009 v70 2.0d
its the ford based engine, i was looking for an xc90 but the ones i have viewed around the 5-6 k bracket have been crap. my volvo has done 72k and i do around 5k a year so i have decided to hang onto it and possibly improve it with a decent set of alloys etc. anyhow i have been offered a set of a 2011 v70 , the tyre size is 245/45/17 my car has got 225/50R17 W tyres on it my tyres are continentals with loads of tread but my alloys look tired and dated so my question is will a set of alloys from a 2011 car fit a 2009 car i can always put my tyres on the other alloys if they are too wide |

Yes the tyres will fit but cars fitted with 245 wide tyres are fitted with a steering limiter, which you would need to fit.

re
hi it looks like although the wheels are 17 inch they are sized as an 8J * 17 ET55
where as i believe that mine are size 7J * 17 ET50 so although the wheel will fit my car , I dont know if my tyres will fit the wheel My tyres were put on by the previous owner and have only done 5-6k and are a good make the tyres on the alloys are of a lesser make and are worn, 2 need replacing but thanks for the info, I used to have a 55reg v70 the 185bhp model, that had lock stops to stop the wheel from catching the wing turning circle wasnt good on that car |

Yes, the alloys designed for the 245/45R17 tyre are 8 inches wide where as those designed for the 225/50R17 tyre are only 7 inches wide. They are a genuine fitment for the car (I have the 245/40R18 tyres on 18x8 alloys on mine) but 245 section tyres do require a steering limiter being fitted.

Why would you want to change from a 17x7 rim to a 17x8 rim? If you don't like your current alloys get a different style of the same size.
Steering limiters are fitted onto the steering rack itself, inside the steering gaiter, fitting them will cost you over £100 at a dealer. The gaiters never go back on properly uunless it's done with jubilee clips or you get new clips - apparently only available with a full gaiter replacement kit - tie wraps don't work. You will massively notice the reduction in turning circle and you'll hate the car's sudden tendency to tramline which you will not have had before. To answer your specific question - I wouldn't recommend 225/50/17 tyres on an 8j rim. |

Really glad I bothered to give input on this thread. So satisfying to hear from someone who starts a post, sucks the life out of it and then gives nothing back.
