Default M41 G/box with extended cover

I'm on the look out for an OD M41 for my 145.
I've seen one which has the extended cover from the 1800.
What I can't find out anywhere is whether it's possible to remove the extended cover and use a normal long shifter as is currently in my 145?

I don't want to change the shifter position...

Yes they are a direct swap, but you will have to drill out the lid for the OD lock-out switch. The position for that should be moulded on the underside of the lid. Someone will know the size and tap for that.

Thanks Derek, great news.
I am taking delivery tomorrow of a recently rebuilt B18 motor that I chanced upon before the weekend so I'll have my work cut out.
