Hello and welcome to this exclusive section of the Forums. I sat exclusive as there are very few of us on here, as you will see.
I have 2 164s on the road plus others "in the wings", but your scuttle problem is well known I'm afraid. They rust from the inside out due water ingress down behind the windscreen side trims, and bimetallic corrosion caused by the metal windscreen retaining clips. One of my spares-cars has a fist-size hole there, right into the car. This panel is the same as on the early Volvo 240s and 260s but I don't know availability, and of course the fitting job will be expensive; could yours not be patched? Brookhouse Volvo in Ipswich can get Volvo 164 bits - give Simon a call on 01473 218806. As you are a new member and they have a 30 post minimum rule for sending private mails, you can mail me direct on paultill@tesco.net for further discussions if interested. Tell us more about your new purchase - I was following that car but its a long way from Scotland to south London..... Paul |
