Default 164 front inertia seat-belts into 144

Hi

I have dug up what I'm pretty certain are 164 front inertia seat-belts and was wandering if I am able to successfully fit into my 144 - replace the fixed ones

I'm guessing I would need to re-jig or cut the plastic B post trim too?

Anyone done this before - many thanks

Default Careful now...

There's a bodyshell change with year of manufacture. My 1969/70 144 has fixed seatbelts and it'll be harder to fit inertia reels than I'd hoped because it does not have the (very) big square hole in the sill/B post area to put the reel part [I]inside[I] the sill. Early cars will need the reel attached to the lower seat belt mount along with the lap part of the belt. Mine has 240GLT seats and it's very tight for space.

Thanks Mark; mine is registered as May 1970, sounds like it might be a similar age to yours.

mine's stripped of all it's interior at the moment so will have a look but I suspect it won't work. I think the belts came out of a similar aged 164, but maybe reels were standard for the 164s???

Default Always possible

Anything can be done if you're determined. The benefit of sticking with 140/160 belts is that you can use the original mounting for the clips in the middle. The more modern stalks are usually too long so have to be sited further back. Volvo sold a conversion kit for 120s and early 140s so at worse you'll need some hefty brackets.

These are 164 belts not 240 series but I've had a look and it won't work without cutting and drilling, so will make do with the originals

Thanks anyway
