Default mass air flow b18u

My car is starting to have flat spots, I feel the air flow meter is at blame...for 18 years it hasnt been changed

Anyone got any eBay links to one or know where I can get a new one?

You've made me doubt myself lol ill have a look Friday when I pick the car up from my aunts...I thought it was straight after the airbox? Maybe confusing it with another car in my care atm

If there is no maf for the b18u what else would cause the flat spots?

Throttle position sensor can cause flat spots.

Try a good old can of carb cleaner straight through the top of the CFI unit, that'll pull all the varnish and caked on cr@p off the butterfly valves as they could be sticking.

Don't forget though, that it will probably be slightly down on power in this warm weather...

And I think yours is the most freakishly fast b18u in the world anyway, purely by luck.
Reminds me of a mate's bog standard Nova SR. That would keep up with all sorts, I even remember him embarrassing a Sierra Cosworth once!!

Oh, Chesh has some b18u injectors if you wanted to give one a go?

Really? Its fettled but nothing special. Theres the time I got it to 140 and broke the speedo - downhill from Stansted airport to the m25 appart from that im not sure where ur getting this idea from yardy? Feel free to call bs on anything iv said in the past ie this post.

I know the car is **** in terms of acceleration (11 seconds standard) and top end speed really so there isnt need to throw around wild fantasies. Nova Sr only had 70bhp with a 0-60 of around 8 seconds...not terrible but not enough to worry a cozzie at 7 secs to 62mph?

Id like to try chesh's injectors if its ok?

Not intended that way Andrew, sorry if I wound you up!

I was being serious, from what you've said your b18u is pretty brisk for a pretty much standard motor. Being able to nudge 140 is something that wouldn't normally happen.

I was more trying to say that there are sometimes standard cars that for no apparent reason are genuinely much quicker than they should be, anomalies that defy explanation.

My mate's Nova was genuinely frightening, none of us could figure it out but it flipping flew!
The Cossie thing did actually happen too, although that was probably due to the other driver being useless. On paper the Sierra should have mullered it, but when you think about it the Nova only weighed about 850-900kg and if for whatever reason it was putting out say 90hp (although if felt like a whole lot more) then that's a quick little car!

Oh, trust me on the carb cleaner, it worked wonders on my b18u

Yardy

Lol no worries hard to send across your actual meaning in words, you didnt wind me up hehe just reiterated what could have made you think "hmm thats crap" incase you did think that..im not sure how to get my wording of the previois post accross nothing malicious - more like chatting to mates down the pub in a drunken debate lol

Anyway I must have been lucky or my grandfather really knew what he was doing lol he did dabble in formula 2 back in the day I recently found out. Ill try carb cleaner around the buterfly valve and see how that works out

Cheers yardy
