Default V70 Handbrake Adjustment.

The handbrake on my recently purchased 2001 V70 has a long travel. Is there a means of adjustment. Apologies if this seems a rather simple question but I have not yet purchased my 'Haynes' manual!

Default Rear drum adjusters

I am not sure that the V70 is the same as my 850.
The 850 has a drum and brake shoes which are only for the handbrake. At the top of the drum is a manual adjuster with a toothed wheel. If you stick a flat bladed screwdriver through one of the holes in the drum you can move the toothed wheel by moving the screwdriver up and down. The screwdriver goes in at the 12 o'clock postion. Can't remember if it is from the front or rear of the drum.

With the handbrake off, adjust the adjuster so that the drum - disc locks up. Back off several clicks. Repeat with other rear wheel. Handbrake should now be fine.

Regards

Mike.
If it's the same as an 850, jack up car and remove wheel (loosen nuts whilst car is on ground it's easier), adjustment hole is at top of drum/disk, let handbrake off (chock adjacent wheel as required for safety) use suitable screwdriver or adjustment tool and tighten knurled adjuster found at the 1200hrs position via aforementioned hole until the drum is locked up, recomendation is to then loosen off 5 notches but with trial and error 4 might suffice, spin the drum by hand and see if it's rubbing or binding, the main thing is not to have it too tight. There is an adjustment at the handbrake handle itself as well but all things being equal you shouldn't have to touch it.

There should be an adjuster in the armrest between the front seats, you need to flick the small plastic panel off to get at it. Adjust it with a 10mm?socket.

Default handbrake

front adjustment is for cable play only..do it on the drums first then check efficiency.

Have a look at the 2000> forum, search 'handbrake'.
Fitting new handbrake shoes would be a wise choice, if the linings come off the old ones it will be a very expensive problem.

Yes do the handbrake shoes too, if they have not been done it is only a matter of time before the linings separate from the shoe.

Sorry to be thick, but is 2000> BEFORE or AFTER 2000? I have a 2001 C70.

Also, does the 'different setup' mean pre or post 2000 cars have the expensive problem of needing a new hub if it all goes wrong?
