Differential Change
I was thinking of fitting overdrive to my 72. 144.
As a alternative. Can anybody tell me if a differential from a 164 is a direct swop into my 144 axle.? And what the difference in the ratios is. I have done this before when I fitted a Austin Westminster diff into my Brothers FX4 Taxi . |

Ah, the old Westy diff swap.
Much easier than a Volvo, I'm afraid, since the BMC diff comes out as one big chunk. No messing with backlash etc. The Volvo one is easy enough to take apart, but needs careful setting up to get the pinion correct. Not impossible, but you might find it less intimidating just swapping the whole axle, innards untouched. Good luck! James. |

Thanks James and Kay.
You have confirmed my thoughts on this... It looks like the easiest way is to change the axle. Thanks Jim |
