As I said, it was a few years ago, much the same engine (but heavier) than the one they used in the corvette I think.

Would be similar as in a big petrol bent eight, but different as Chevrolet don't use Ford engines, to the best of my knowledge? I love a good v8, but any big capacity engine is a joy to sit behind.

My point wasn't that petrols can't be torquey, it's that diesels produce considerably higher torque by design without needing huge amounts of bhp.
Your focus is tuned by design to 345 bhp to produce the same torque as your D3 which I'm guessing would be at least 100 bhp less.

The point I was trying to make was modern petrols can produce the torque as Harvey experienced with his loan car. The gearbox possibly hid the multiple gear changes required but they can produce a good amount of torque over a wide band by use of direct injection.

That car did not have a high specific hp output.
