Hi gnc

In the past, I have forgotten to plug the power cable back in to the abs control module (on a 1998 or 1999 V70).

I got an error code, and a warning light, and of course no ABS, but the car worked fine.

I am pretty sure that completely removing the control module would have the same effect.
While you are at it, get the part number off the module.

If you get a used one (with the same part number) it shouldn't need reprogramming.

Thinking about it a bit more, you could unplug the power and the other wire to the abs module, and see what happens.

If that drives ok, then OK to remove the abs module completely for testing etc.

I am not sure why an abs module would affect the gearbox changing up.

Do you have a code reader, and any codes?

Does this C70 have abs sensors at the rear wheels?

Because the ABS provides the gearbox and engine ECUs with a vehicle speed signal. The gearbox needs to know the road speed of the vehicle to calculate the correct time to change gear.

It's the front left (passenger side) sensor that provides this signal IIRC, so the OP's problems with the front right sensor seem odd if it's affecting speedo or gearchanging?

Hi gnc,

I am not familiar with those codes. Maybe they depend on which code reader you are using.

This thread looks very relevant

https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/fo...ic.php?t=41538

The poster had a problem which turned out to be a broken wire between the abs sensor and the abs module.

Hope you work it out.

Steve
