switch panel and gear selector bulbs
Does anyone know where to get replacement bulbs for the switch panel and auto gear selector?
I have taken over my late dad's Volvo 740 and have been giving it a bit of TLC but find it a nuisance driving at night as I can't see the gear selector. Having removed the bulbs, I see that they look like W2x4.6d but in a moulded assembly. I've tried to find similar on line but are these uniquely Volvo? Is there any type of bulb holder or adaptor for a standard capless bulb to use in it's place? Thanks in advance. |

I think you’ll find there are two different types. Volvo part numbers 3545170 and 30710781. If you Google those you’ll find images of the two types. Check which ones you need. They are available from the dealer and online at a price. Older 740s apparently used a separate holder with a standard capless bulb. You might be able to obtain the holders second-hand and convert to cheaper standard bulbs.

I've Googled the part numbers and I'm not paying $10 a piece for them...
Having looked further, the auto gear selector illumination is a replaceable bulb so that is ok. The heated seat switch and headlamp switch are the moulded type so might look at how I can adapt an ordinary bulb holder, or source bulb holders. The heated mirror switches and cigar lighter are replaceable bulbs so that it handy as well - only after reading the parts manual did I discover that the rear ashtray has its own illumination. Don't think I've ever seen that work. Just ordered a selection of bulbs so they will be good to go. |
