Thumbs down Be wary of this one!

I know that a lot of potential XC90 buyers check out these forum pages for advice and possible cars to purchase.

I've followed the recent account on social media of someone in Manchester who sadly bought a poor example locally in January 2017 and has now got rid of the car. The vehicle initially sounded great as it had never failed an MOT test and had not had any significant advisories either. It had a full Volvo service history and was in excellent visible condition too.

In 7 weeks he has spent a further £3k on the car on top of the purchase price and it still had problems when he sold it via 'we want any car' last weekend.

I thought it appropriate to identify this vehicle: Volvo XC90 SE Lux OY57 MZD as one to steer clear of when it eventually finds it's way via the trade onto a forecourt somewhere, hopefully saving someone further grief with this particular XC90.

Hi,

It was from the XC90 owners page on Facebook, the owner was a David Speed from north Manchester if I remember correctly. I think he's removed himself from that group now but you may be able to find him on Facebook.

Might be worth getting his address off the V5 if the seller will give it to you and drop him a line. I've just had a bit of a look for you: If you access Facebook and look up Volvo XC90 owners club, apply to join this closed group, put David Speed in the search box, you will pick up his whole thread about this particular car.

He had all sorts of problems, some that he had fixed (suspension, gearbox) but if I remember correctly it was an engine misfire, abs fault, vibration and injector problem that finally made him throw in the towel as the likely repair cost was enormous.

Good luck.

Paul

Thanks for that.

Trouble buying second hand at test age, can look good, but can be a money put underneath. That one does look good and the quick fire up if the engine last week seemed ok, but nit yet tried it on the road. Don't think we will now

Many thanks fir the heads up. Wouldn't have had a clue 😄

Glad to have been of service and possibly saved you from an annoying and costly situation.

There are lots of good people on here who will always give clear, honest answers to anything XC90 related. I did loads of research on here before buying mine, the information provided within the forum on what to look for or avoid was invaluable to me.

I was fortunate in finding a very low mileage, well maintained and well looked after two-owner XC90 and have not had any major problems, just the usual niggling things that everyone on here is aware of.

Good luck with your search, the right XC90 for you is out there somewhere!
