turbo non turbo
Looks like the 850 non - turbos had a 228mm clutch and the turbos 240mm. It's volvo part number 271494, which is a pain because that part number is listed for both turbo and n/a ! As it's a n/a pressure plate then I think it's wise to get it strengthened to mimic the racing one.

If you're going to get it strengthened anyway, why not just send them the 940 turbo pressure plate to modify?

size
To match up with the dogdish flywheel The clutch has to be 228mm. The clutch in at the moment is 240mm. A genuine sachs 940 turbo diesel clutch kit is getting towards £200 now.
I now have a genuine sachs 850 clutch and pressure plate for £50 which will cost me £70 to get sorted to my specs. ( resurfaced and presure plate strengthened to be similar to the sachs racing pressure plate). So then I will have a stronger set up for £80 less.

Will a 850 pressure plate fit the dogdish flywheel? I thought 850 flywheels were flat?
Surely you need: 1) A 228mm 850 friction plate with a sprung centre that matches the input splines of the M90. 2) A pressure plate that fits the dogdish flywheel, either 740 Turbo, early 940 Turbo (M47 box) or Turbo Diesel. |

update
So I now have my 850 glt clutch disc and pressure plate back from Precision Clutches near Bristol. The clutch disc looks great and I got them to resurface it with upgraded material and it does fit. The pressure plate isn't close to fitting as it's a bigger diameter than the flywheel and the dowels don't line up! So I'm glad he didn't upgrade that. So now I have a genuine Sachs upgraded Volvo 850 glt 228mm 20 spline flywheel spare and have a Volvo 940 diesel clutch kit in the post!
The dog dish flywheel weighs 28 lb 6oz btw.

So you're using the 850 GLT disc with the diesel 940 pressure plate? Are they installed yet, any comments?
