....or do as I do, and go into the dealers well armed with info (or email) and state the price you are prepared to pay, so long as it is a reasonable offer and not silly.

Regards

Edit zero percent finance as well with 50% deposit

I did Carwow and I am getting expensive offers.

Just a quickie to rest my mind about the D2.

I have my concerns about the D2 engine and have researched the following.

It does not use the oil additive to regenerate? Is this correct.

The filter does not have an expensive £1200 replacement charge at 60k/75k??? This I am not sure about.

Also, does anyone have the service schedule and dealer service costs for this car?

Really unsure on what to do, get this treat, or an old C30..

At 8k miles a year, you are borederline whether a Diesel will actually be cheaper to run. Not only is Diesel more expensive to buy, but the cars also command a premium price over the petrol equivilant!

Been looking at the selekt database, only D2 and D3's come up!

Not borderline at all financially not viable however some like the drive characteristics of a derv better.
I would say that nowadays 18000m would be borderline.

DPF doesn't use additive on D2 and does not need replacing like on the 1.6d.

Volvo do a service schedule/price indicator on their site. I knew where it was before they changed the theme. Should be on there somewhere.

I have purchased today..

Took a V40 D2 R-Design out on my own and gave it a good thrashing.
Amazing power for a 1.6d.

So happy, and excited.

Hope you got a good deal!

5 years worth of servicing will come in at ~£1410 for a D2 (according to Volvo's price indicator). New cars can have a 5 year service pack for £500 = £900 saving. You can get ~£3000 off a list D2 R-design via a broker. Finance on a new car is also often much cheaper, 4.9% for new vs often 10%+ for second hand - of course you can lower that by getting a loan via a bank if you qualify for the low rates many now offer.

Adding that up - £900 services saving, £3000 broker saving, finance saving - I'd want about £4,500-5000 off the list price just for starters, nevermind taking account of the age and mileage. And I never saw any V40 cars on Selekt that seemed good value to me as a result, it's partly why I ended up with a S60 (felt nearly new were much better deals than even a V40 nearly new).
