V70 Mk3 D5 2008 Starting Button Problem
V70 2008 D5 Sport 6 Speed manual.
When it's warm it has sometimes failed to start. I put the key in, press the clutch and hit the button and either nothing happens or it cranks over very slowly and won't start and it seems to send the electronics into a hissy fit - the dash lights flicker and I have to remove the key. When this is happening it also often flashes up the 'depress Clutch' message. On the advice of a breakdown guy, I replaced the battery but the intermittent problem still persisted. I took it to my local Volvo specialist and they fitted a new starter motor - but it's now actually worse - before it would sometimes not start when warmed up but most of the time it did start okay. Now it will not start when warm, only from cold. I should add, that I can bump start it and it fires up very quickly and runs fine. Has anybody experienced similar issues and if so how was it fixed? I've spent £400 so far and I seem to be no nearer a solution Thanks in advance. |

Have you checked the clutch position sensor is healthy and giving the correct readings?
I would of had it on diagnosis before spending any money on bits to get an idea of what was wrong. You have changed the battery and starter motor. There is the clutch position sensor, the key slot and an ecu to go, are you going to change them and hope or get some idea what's wrong before spending more money. Others have had problems with the key slot. I am talking theoretically as my car has as yet not had any of these problems, I do know the 2 sensors on the exhaust I had to have changed cost £300 and the MAF sensor on the previous volvo was £360. Changing bits in hope quickly becomes very expensive. If you don't have volvo diagnostics take it to a dealer who not only does have it but also an operator that knows what it's telling them is my advise. Paul. |
