302mm disc vents
Does anyone know if there are any manufacturers of the 850/V70 302mm discs who put the intake to the disc vents on the inner side of the disc?
It seems that most aftermarket discs (and presumably the Volvo parts) come with vents in the outside of the disc like the example on the left (you can just see them between the disc centre and the face): DSCF0007 by crogthomas, on Flickr I'd like to use 302mm discs with brake cooling ducts and therefore need to take air from the inside of the discs like the standard 940 280mm discs on the right of my photos. DSCF0006 by crogthomas, on Flickr I assume that since Volvo put the vents on the outer side, that all of the aftermarket manufacturers do the same, but it's worth asking the collective mind of the forum just in-case. Thanks Craig |

They are all stock photos.
Look at the sellers "Other Items" and you'll see the same picture being used over and over again for *all* front disks. Also, one of the sellers (the 2nd link you posted) has put "Generic Image" at the top of the photo, and the 3rd link you posted has "Pictures are illustration purpose only" Examples: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FRONT-BRAK...item35bbe34995 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FRONT-BRAK...item35bbe32404 Another seller (1st link) has even used the same photos for an Impreza: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DRILLED-BR...item19b576989b and a Saxo VTR/VTS: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CITROEN-SA...item19b68248d7 and a Honda Civic: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FRONT-CIVI...item439882362f To the OP: Can you not run the cooling ducts to the callipers and cool the pads, and let the vents in the disks do their own thing? That'll stop quite so much heat being generated by (and stored in) the pads, so keeping the temps down a bit more? |

I bought genuine Volvo ones and they are the same as the ones in your picture.
Because the brakes are so much better I don't think the difference in design will affect anything. Most people will be using wheels of an open design but even with steel wheels and wheel trims mine seem OK. There are some more pictures and info in the write up I did. |
