Resuce dogs can be a handful I know. Maybe time to invest in a tail lift

I don't have a solution, unfortunately, but looking myself. But with the height of the XC90 it is even more difficult...
I tried a ramp, works in three out of ten times... But to lift 40kg every time isn't the task I wished for...

Have you tried something like stairs? I have seen a DIY project, where the stairs fold down from the boot. Something like this, but only two steps and made out of wood.

Would it be a problem for you, if you have to push a button to turn the lamp on/off?

Thanks, sadly anything that has even the slightest bit of give is a major no , no. I have bodge made a solid none moveable 2 step to get in and out of the car at home, I still have to nearly choke the lad and push with the other hand to get him to go up it, down is not as bad.

The other issue is, I have 2 more of about the same size, so even with the seats folded so that they have the full space of the boot/passenger area, there isn't any room for anything else.

If its dry for a few days, I can go to one walk in the woods where its up a sandy forest fire track, I can park the car so that I backup to a felled tree, but it has to be touching, any gap and legs can get stuck, that's a great way for him to get in and out so its the main place in the warmer months.

He's 13 come April, bad eyes, going deaf with bad back and hips, no, not called Lucky either lol

What would be an idea is wiring up the reversing lights to come on with the boot light, any thoughts on that idea? Is it as simple as running a wire down from the boot light?

In theory, you could do that but I wouldn't recommend it in case it causes issues with the car's computer getting power on that circuit when it's not expecting it.

Bear in mind you can, of course, take power from the rear cigarette lighter socket. More specifically the terminals behind it to make the job neater, they are very easy to access.
You would need to wire in an inline switch or PIR sensor as that circuit is always powered even with the ignition off.

Probably more draw on the reversing 2 bulbs too

I have wired in a 2nd cig light socket on the other side of the boot that's powered off with the ignition. The issue there is regards to the dogs knocking it

This is why its taken over a year in the thinking stage lol
