Spot on with the plug gaps!

Is this the one that had the intercooler full of oil not so long back?

Correct!
Although since a full oil and filter change two months ago, the dip stick has gone from max to half way down... so about 500ml? Loss, but not exceptional considering how much seeps out the rocker cover and turbo return line at the block 🤷

The crankcase is over-pressurising, probably because of the PCV system being blocked somewhere or possible failure of an NRV somewhere.

Luke would be better to tell you if/where the NRV is as the last turbo vehicle i had was about 14 years ago and that wasn't even a Volvo.

First thing I did was change the pcv box... what’s a nrv when it’s at home?

Non-return valve. Did you also clean out the flame trap, the stub on the inlet manifold for vacuum and the hoses in between?

PS - by now, you'll need to clean the oil separator/pcv box as well.

I cleaned the lot (apart from flame trap, turbos don’t have one).
Will the pcv box need cleaning already? Only went on two months ago (26th Sept, I wrote in my service book)

"I cleaned the lot (apart from flame trap, turbos don’t have one). "

They do, Volvo call it a nipple instead. It's the same casing without a filter gauze in the middle and still performs the function of a flame trap. The flame trap IS NOT the gauze.

Regardless of what it's called, did you clean it out and run a drill bit (between your fingers) through the stubs on it to ensure there were no blockages?

Given that something has been overlooked or that it was so neglected previously that it has rapidly become blocked again, yes. It's pretty common, even on the n/asp engines to have to re-clean after a month or two if they've been neglected which sadly all too often happens, despite the fact that cleaning it should be a service item.

Ah, so the off angle T-piece is the flame trap? Yes, that got a good soak in carb cleaner and went at it with a pipe cleaner... it wasn’t too dirty to be fair, and it clear.

I’ll have the box off again and run some thinners through it.

The only NRV I know of is on the brake

That's the one, yeah. While the box is soaking in thinners, clean the rest of the PCV system again.

There are loads of NRVs on Volvos, in the screenwash systems, if you have air-con there are several there as the vacuum to operate the heater flaps and valve is derived from inlet manifold vacuum.
