I have watched this thread with interest. My rear RHS door warning light is not working.
My car is 1990 740 SE Estate,

What I have checked so far:
I have the front and rear door cards on the driver side removed. (thanks for the description Luke)
Connecting the front door card to the connector on the front door warning light, when door is open both the warning light and the interior light work perfectly.

Connecting the rear door card to the connector on the rear door warning light, when door is open the interior light works but the door warning light will not.
Then,
Connecting the front door card to the connector on the rear door warning light, when door is open the warning light will not operate but the interior light work perfectly.

Connecting the rear door card to the front connector both the warning light and the interior light work perfectly.

(Note: The interior lights work perfectly without connecting the door warning lights. Passenger side interior lights and warning lights work perfectly.)
Multimeter Voltage reading measured on both black and brown/black wires on front connector is 10.6 V
Multimeter Voltage reading measured on brown/black wire on rear connector is 10.6 V but no voltage on black wire (although I thoroughly cleaned push on clip)

Conclusion, (kinda):
Both door card wiring is sound, bulbs are sound, front door wiring is sound……..
Question: Where do I check next?
Thanks for your help,
Mike

It's probably the door pillar switch on the B pillar or the wiring between it and the rear door card connector. Remove the door pillar switch from the B post, disconnect both connectors, clean the terminals on the switch and reconnect the connectors and refit the switch.

See what you've got then.

Thanks so much much Dave, I will try that, maybe even exchange the door pillar switches while I am at it.
Take Care Mike

A definitive test Mike would be to swap the pillar switch with a known good one. I broke a pillar switch some time back (drivers one so the most commonly used) so swapped with the near side rear door pillar switch while i waited for a replacement.
Granted it meant i didn't have lights if i opened that rear door but as i rarely use that one it wasn't a major problem.

Have a fiddle/play with what you've got and let us know how it goes!

You are spot on Dave swapped switch with a good switch and the dodgy one is now dispatched to the near side rear door pillar. Must get a replacement.....
Many thanks again,
Mike

Default door pillar switch

I have been following this post with interest as I have had a problem with my V90 (1997). One of my rear doors when opened lights the red light on the door edge, but not the interior courtesy light. I have removed the switch and cleaned it as per Dave's helpful advice, but still not working. I shall like to but say2 of these switches so if anyone knows the best place to get them and even the Volvo part number I'd be appreciative. Thanks

Drop Luke (360beast) a PM Derek, he has many secondhand ones. Last time i cheked the price of new ones they were £18 each so secondhand is a much nicer option for the wallet!
