My 265 has an odd fault with its steering and I wondered if anyone else had any experience like it. The power assistance is greater on the left hand lock than the right. There is a tear on the near side rack gaiter, but I can't see how this would effect it. I have had to the tracking checked and it's within tolerances. Looking in the heynes manual there is a way to adjusting the amount of assistance on each lock using a service tool and a set of gauges which, obviously, everyone has behind their settee! Has anyone done this, or am I just to start looking for a new/good secondhand rack?
Any help would update be much appreciated.

Another possibility it could be a stiff ball joint, inner or outer track rod joint or top mounting. I get it with mine occasionally, turns left ok; but on right lock it starts ok then goes heavy. It did used to be really bad on left lock but after replacing the bottom ball it resolved.

For once the Haynes Manual is correct , you adjust the big nut slightly in one direction or another so that you get equal pressure for each lock .

Yes check ball joints, then get the front wheels off the ground with a stand under each lower arm and recheck. Should give you a better idea. If this "big nut" is easy to turn, adjust while it is in the air by feel . Should be able to get it close enough.
