To me its simple - if before you had 30MPH with 2k revs, and now you have 30MPH with 3k revs on the same gear, its either:
a) your clutch is slipping constantly
b) your gearbox/final ratio magically changed while car was in service

Cant think of other explanations, seriously.
Took the car back for its first 500 mile check (after clutch fitted). They said it is slipping badly! So I asked the garage to change it instead of going back to the original garage and charge it back (it's a chain of garages). I was told that the supplier had mislabelled the parts so they fitted the wrong clutch! I hope there is no downstream damage as a result... anyway, its back in getting the right clutch fitted now... i hope. Thanks for all the comments and advice !!

Well, kudos to you for being patient with it, I would go back after 5 miles :P
fingers crossed its sorted out this time. Cant imagine any issues being from wrong one fitted, however I am not sure what actually was causing it (like what part was not correct making it slip).

The problem was that I am not expert and it was just (to me) indicating high revs per gear, which was very odd.

I took it back today for its next check - they said it was fine , yet I have noticed that at 60mph, the Revs were at 2500 in 5th gear a week ago. After some motorway driving last night, I found it at 60mph at 3000 revs in 5th gear - both on stable motorway surfaces. Thats a pretty rapid change in a few weeks and around 500 miles driving.

The key thing I found was going to another garage in the same chain to have the test done there the first time.

For today's test, I went back to the garage who identified fitted the 2nd clutch. I think I will try that again for the next test. I do not want to invalidate the warranty by putting the stress on a new clutch by doing a clutch test myself so I am stuck with being told there is nothing wrong (as I was today).

Does anyone think its worth now getting Volvo to test the clutch and verify its condition? It seems the same symptoms are coming back..

Unfortunately, unless it's slipping there is not a lot else Volvo will really be able to do to diagnose it without stripping it apart. They'll likely just quote you for replacement I expect.

Yup, that's exactly what they did when I first started looking for a replacement. But its establishing if its slipping that I need a professional opinion on..

From my personal experience with Volvo's (around 10 years) I've come to the conclusion that they're built to work best with their own parts and the majority of the time, anything after market will fail/not work well with the rest of the car and if it does work, it'll be very short term.

If you're in desperate need of the car I'd look for a good Volvo specialist in your area and get them to fit a genuine clutch. I fear you'll just be running around in circles if you use elsewhere as I've yet to find a garage that'll use Volvo parts rather than cheaper after market.

It's a real shame because I have already lost 1k on the car for the current clutch. I wish i did go with Volvo now, but its another 1.5k - that is more than the car is worth

The current clutch cost you £1000? Volvo themselves only charge £200 odd more to do it themselves......At a main dealer....
