With mine I was unable to tell the difference in the heater output both before and after matrix change but boy did I notice the difference re the coolant res bottle not overflowing. Using the heater or not will make no difference in my experience.

Like I say half hour job once you have some coolant hose and 2 jubilee clips, I seem to recall Robert Spinner has a helpful demo YouTube, clearly you have nothing to lose by giving it a go.

And if you do this and change the res cap and it makes no difference you can exclude the matrix as the cause of your problems.

This will then leave you in the position of knowing you have a blockage somewhere else ( some clown mixed different coolant types ? ) or troubled water pump be it seized or that rare beast, impeller broken ?

Best of luck, when I had this problem it really knawed at my sanity, particularly with voices of vast experience telling me it was head gasket failure when it was not !

Cheers again. You are right it has to be worth a shot. I know exactly the pipes to do this as it was one of them that burst causing all of this! Had no circulation problems before the burst pipe and over heat. Just had a wee run in her today still same bubbling when up to temp. Will keep updating.

With your extra bit if information I am now reasonably confident that you have a blocked matrix causing the overflow and diverting the coolant flow will confirm or deny

Definitely a circulation problem. The water is boiling due to poor circulation.
Maybe take the radiator off and see if this flows through ok testing it with a hose. If not then replace this. Should be pretty cheap. If the water can't flow through the rad then it will boil as this is where it looses most of it's heat.

Otherwise, maybe take off the water pump and inspect for damage although this is probably quite a big job.

If these 2 are ok then it has to be a blockage elsewhere. If the heaters are blowing hot then I'd be surprised if it's a blockage to the heater matrix but I'm by no means an expert!

Good luck

Also what you can do to bleed the system is run it at idle on the drive with the reservoir cap removed. Run till operating temp is reached and then for 20 mins or so after that. Keep an eye on the level though as if air disperses the level can drop so will need topping up.
