Canis,

Your point of view seems to me perfectly clear.

As a newbie, I have a question about the calipers: are they the same for 280 and 302 mm ?

Cheers.

Same procedure? Yes, no difference. Same as each other? No, they need to fit the discs.

For all the tips and advice, I thank you.

I thought I had a good idea the other day. Absolutely hammer the brakes for 10 mins to remove any glazing etc. It made them quieter for a short time but as soon as they reached normal operating temps (warm not hot), they were noisy as hell again.

Next step is to replace the pads with genuine volvo ones.

Discs must be brand new as there isn't any rust and there is absolutely no wear to them.

I'll update soon...

If the discs have what looks to be a factory painted "Bell" (The central part that juts out toward the hub) then they'll be Volvo or Brembo.

I've suffered many times over the years with fitting crap brakes, but I never seem to learn.
I currently have ECP's finest Eicher discs and pads all round on the 850 and they are truely dreadful.
The pads move within the calipers resulting in a clunk from both rears when taking up braking, and now it's been remapped trying to stop it while fully laden with tools is terrifying if I've had a momentary lapse of concentration/regressed to being 17 again.

Volvo or Brembo only from now on...

Are you sure it's the front discs? Could be the rear discs with internal drum brakes? Maybe they need cleaning?

+1 on that.......I would have sworn the squeal I had was from the front.....turned out to be the back.....caliper seized was the problem.

had this problem on my T5R. I could make them quiet using brake cleaner then they would get noisy again.

they were cheap APEC pads.

changed to Bosch pads and all is quiet.

apparently the Bosch pads have sprinkles of copper in the pad material, cant remember who or how I found out, but you can see it reflect in the light.

was some years ago now, and just googled Bosch and it seems they have developed some new pads called Quiet Cast without needing copper.

though they might be like alcohol free beer.
