I have a 2012 C70 Lux Solstice D3 geartronic Diesel and I love it.
It had 16500 miles on the clock when I got it in July, always serviced. I had a Mini Cooper with a glass roof, which was great fun but this is better but not as practical (can't fold the rear seats). I miss having a manual box (I don't particularly like having to brake approaching an unknown bend but I'm getting used to it) but it is very responsive. Set the cruise control to 60, slow down to 30 and then reactivate it - you will be surprised by the acceleration. It is an eye catching car with the roof down; I have a Volvo wind deflector with zips, so putting shopping on the back seat isn't a problem if boot space is slightly limited if the roof is down. I am getting around 43mpg, which is pretty good for an automatic. I have only had it since July and I wouldn't swap it for anything else available today. |

Wrong section Fella.
This is for the P1 C70s, which are completely different cars. The later cars' sections are further down the forum main page.

I have had a 1999 GT I bought for 400 quid and now have a 2003 GT that I bought for 300. Both needed a bit of time spending on them but it was silly things like pipes perishing on the engine and the heater matrix in both. Watch out for the 5 speed auto...them boxes can be troublesome. I preferred the 4 speed to be honest. The 2004 one I have now so more solid than the 1999 one as there seems to have e been an addition of a metal bar just running above the front foot sells. Good luck and happy motoring !! Ps I love mine...

Nice convertibles are not cheap, however there are a lot of rough neglected convertibles around that are cheap.

The rear window became unattached in my 2003 C70 and after much searching for repair options, there was only one solution A NEW ROOF. Volvo no longer make them so you will have to buy an aftermarket version which has a much stronger bonding technique to the window and are guaranteed not to come detached. There are a number of different companies offering this service and the one I chose set me back £1300 including fitting which took all day to do but the finished result is excellent. http://www.carhood.com/volvo/

We've had a 2003 C70 T5 GT Convertible for years and just love it. Yes, you have to look after the roof and we were faced with gearbox lag a few years ago. A full rebuild by a local specialist was worth every penny of the £950.00 it cost, for nothing more than the 'wow' factor when hitting the right hand pedal on an open road. We love it and it will stay with us forever.
PS: Really good for upsetting the young bucks in their Audi 'S' Lines and M Powered BMW's when they get left for dead off the line by an old grandad! (But of course I don't do that!) |

I have a 2003, T5, bought about a year ago with now 124,000 on the clock. Just love the car, the engine is superb and the handling good as well. Bit of scuttle shake but acceptable. I bought a windbreak from Minty short time ago and it makes a big difference. Had a guy in an S60 not so long ago who was going to show me a clean pair of heels. Left him in my slipstream.
Cracking car. Wife thought I bought it for just a short time, and that was my intention. Changed my mind! |

I think I've got one of the last ones. It's a 55 plate 2.0 GT that has possibly been chipped by BSR (no receipts, but a sticker on the back, and the performance is noticeably better with super unleaded).
I've had it a year now and love it. It is the third cheapest car I've ever bought, but probably the nicest one I've ever owned. It's cost me quite a bit though. I had the gearbox oil changed, it needed new disks and pads all round, and one of the front CV boots needed replacing. However, it looks fab and I love the sound of that five cylinder engine. It has really got under my skin tbh. |
