Default V40 2015 D4 advice

Hi all

Currently own a d3 (5cyl) V60 on an 11 plate......

I’m going to look at a v40 d4 2015 on Saturday, 50000miles on the clock. It seems well specced and looks in good condition from the pics, will see for sure on Saturday!

So, anything i need to be aware of when looking at it? Ie any inherent faults that appear? Also, what’s the crack with the dpf? A dry system like my v60 or the eolys system?

Any other bits of advice as well would be great, thanks.

Matt

If it is a 2015 model year car then I think I am right in saying that it will have the new 2.0L 4 cylinder D4 engine which replaced the older 5 cylinder D4. I have read on these forums about EGR issues with the new engine but not sure if there are still any issues with the EGR but best to look for a car with a full Volvo history so that any EGR related upgrades etc. have been done and the car still covered by manufacturers warranty.

The dpf will be a dry system like your D3.

I have a 2016 petrol V40 and have done 20k miles and very happy with the car so far, I think it drives really well and does not feel like a smaller car although there won't be quite so much room in the boot as the V60. If you can try and get a car with rear parking sensors as rear visibility is not great.

I have read about EGR issues with the later diesel engine but, with regard to that particular car, it may have been sorted already. Most of my driving is short, local trips - as such I drive a petrol V40. I considered a V60 but the only difference is a slightly bigger boot. The V40 feels spacious inside and is not a small car. It is just a small Volvo. It is also a lot more attractive than a V60 IMO, but the Cross Country models with body kit and sexy alloys really do look different class.

So went to see the car today and ended up buying it after a test drive. Feels lovely to drive with a decent kick up the arse on acceleration. Have a couple of questions if I may..........

It doesn’t come with a manual....any online links for this?

It only has 1 key, I negotiated a small price reduction because of this, how much roughly and volvo only? Can enthusiast Vida owners code keys or dealer only?

The above link should lead you to an online version of the owners manual.
You will need to change the model year to a 2015.

I can't help you with the key but someone else on here may know, at a guess
I'd say you would have to go to a Volvo dealer.

Good luck with the car.

Volvo dealer for the key - security is very tight. Looking at £150 - 300. Welcome to the V40 club .

Thought that with the key, luckily got 300 off the price for that!

Another quick one if I may. The footwell lights are on all the time when driving, they go off when locked. Is this a feature or is something broken? Lol

This is a feature of the car, you can alter the intensity of the lighting in the MY CAR menu.
