Default V70 D5 Euro 3 now £500 year tax

£500 a year road tax in 2018, this is correct isn't it?

No. The new higher diesel rates only applies to the first year rate for new cars

No changes to banding for existing cars (and I doubt this will ever change), but expect a rise in line with inflation ish.

No. Only newly registered vehicles from April 2018 are affected

Not so much. The old girl owes us nothing and has been an absolute brick. The guys I feel for have got sucked into new motors with lower basis of assessment but you can almost hear the depreciation wave in the car parks. Compared to that, the extra tax is buttons. If anything bad happens we can walk away and find another car that has been ditched to save 500 in tax for a few grand in depreciation.

I couldn't get over the price difference between early and late '08 (Tax system changed in june '08 here) models when i was shopping around the time I bought the xc.
people seem prepared to spend 10 grand more to save €500 a year in tax.
My own preference is a 10 year old high spec car which has done most of its depreciating, the laugh is I get looked down on by people driving 17 reg Yarises and I30s because mine is an 06 but is 10 times the car.
