Default missing on pulling away ??

Well nipped to Prescot before all was fine but did notice the the engine stuttered once changing into second..so thought nothing of it...parks up while my son nipped to the bank...on restart it struggled to start and then I had to give it some revs just to move off, change into second again the engine hesitates then pulls fine...doing 30/40mph drives fine, until you pull up again and once again give it some more revs to pull off..tick over is fine 900rpm.. plugs are less than 1000miles old..exhaust is blowing just before the middle box from the cat, but cant see that being a fault, am I thinking fuel pump/filter...or electrics..
The car is a v70 10v 2.5 1998 as below and with this pi$$in down rain for the last few days am a bit reluctant to go anywhere other than local...got to be something dead simple hasn't it...
Any ideas chaps

john

Disconnect your MAF sensor and see if this makes any difference

These are exactly the same symptoms mine had the other day, put my old MAF back on and mine is 80% better

Get the codes read for any clues there. Also look at the distributor cap, rotor arm and ignition leads perhaps.

thanks Si, was thinking along those lines, having read that they are quite a common problem with the volvo, will wait for a gap in the monsoon outside, and have a bash..

cheers mate

Do you know for certain that you've got a MAF sensor? I'd be surprised on that engine.

well just been out, no maf on mine,, started the car up ,went for a spin round the block, no sign of hesitation at all....but,maybe just reading through an old post brought a thought back to me..on start up I may have depressed the accelerator on start up and if this was the case volvo,s should be started without touching the pedal...reading this other post this bloke did exactly the same and his car ran like a bag of manure for the day...just a thought anyway..
