240 lambda light on, fuel sinking horribly
Good evening all. Is this problem something I could resolve or would an experienced man blanche at the thought?
Symptoms: Very low fuel, engine starts to stutter, stop for fuel. On restarting lambda light comes on, stuttering at low revs continues. Fuel tank empties faster than Oddbins after Lent. Called Braydons of N London: talked me through resetting fuel mgt, but to no avail. He mentions possible air leak in inlet manifold(s). Has anyone else experience of this, and is it something I could tackle? thank you. Chalres |

RE: 240 lambda light on, fuel sinking horribly
When you say 'fuel low' how 'low' if you go below 1/4 with a faulty in tank pump then the main pump with suck are through the two small bypass holes on the now exposed top of the lifter pump and cause the rough idle and running. Eventually the MIL can come on as the the engine is leaned off too much and the O2 sensor stops cycling and the ECU logs a fault. Did you read the error code before clearing the memory. ? If you link fuse 4 and 6 together with the ignition off you will hear the pump under the car if this is sort of sceeching and rough then the lifter pump has failed. Double check this by listening in the filler pipe you should here the little pump. If you are not sure, lift the liner out of the boot, or the floor if you have an Estate, and remove the connecter associated to the cable coming through the inspection plate. the earth should be secured by a screw now connect a meter between the black wire of the femail and the male part of the connecter and you should see 1.4 to 1.6 amps. Do this check and come back to the forum. Regards Peter
