Default blower motor noise

on low level speed 1 to 3 blower motor gives some silly noise (similar as here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRfBfBusghA )

What should I do, replace blower motor from breakers or lubricate bearings?

and how difficult is to take out that motor ?

Can't see the video in work but from experience the first thing to do with noisy blower motors is to remove the pollen filter. They often get neglected and as they clog up they restrict air flow to the blower fan, causing it to be less effective and overheat.

If the pollen filter is manky then either bin it or replace it, before that kills the motor.

I'll name that tune in one.........

My blower motor used to sound like that but only at certain speeds. It sounded like loads of crickets chirping when the system was on auto. If I used the fan speed control I noticed that it would stop when the fan went faster.

My guess was it was the spindle bearing as it made the noise when it was at the default speed as that was where it had spent most of it's time.

I found a brand new Volvo motor on Ebay for less than a pattern one so I went with that. Eurocarparts (and others) do sell replacements. It might have been possible to regrease the spindle or replace the bearings but I just fitted a new unit.

It was a bugger of a job to get the screws out and the new motor resisted going in for about half and hour before I won the battle.

Since then I learned something which may have saved me a lot of time, money and backache.

Recently I changed the Air Quality Sensor underneath the windscreen panel. With the panel pulled out of the way and the air flap open you can easily get to the fan motor spindle to spray something on it.

I would have tried silicon spray or similar if I'd known, if only to prove where the noise was coming from but it might have stopped it as well. Bear in mind your car will pong of whatever you spray for a while and don't spray it n the AQS.

The upper motor bearing seems about to seize. If replaced the fan blades piece will be slightly unbalanced and vibrating at higher speeds

so solution is either to spray silicone or change whole blower motor..

I'd suggest you try the easy solution first and then change the unit if that doesn't work.

I meant if the bearing is replaced, the fan blades might get out of balance
the upper bearing is not accessible with the fan blades in place, some spray may get to it but it's a short term solution, it won't clean the corrosion at the bearing

done my blower motor twice on my v70 over the last 12 month, pain in the arse to do,as has been said if its out of balance it will squeak, the fan blades have small weights on them to help the balance I would say on mine one had come off and it must of got trapped and split the fan blade.Got a used one off ebay and swapped the fan off that and put it on one which I had which I knew was a decent motor of a later year car

Took mine out, cleaner the vast amounts of caked-on crud off the blades, sprayed a sh*t load of WD40 on the spindle and as far as possible in to the bearings...it was fine when I sold it 2 years later. Just be careful not to dislodge the little weights on the blades although I did and it made no difference.
