Default atf flush and additive

With so many of our xc90's now owned by more diyers I thought I'd give a quick update on my geartronic atf change. Mines a 2006 185 with a 6 speed geartronic box, I'm the second owner and the cars done 160,000 miles , the box started flaring third to fourth at about 90,000 mile , nothing too serious at first but its getting progressively worse over the years , especially after a lot of stop start or hilly driving, so a couple of months ago I decided to a gibbons style fluid change,( after it found a false neutral and brought up the dreaded service message ) I changed 15 lts at first with the intention of changing the remaining 5 lts after 500 miles or so, the old (original) fluid came out black but still smelt the same as the new fluid with no sign of burning, well sadly the new fluid made no difference what so ever , so with nothing to loose I tried an additive , Lucas atf additive now the UK forums are full of scare storied about using these but with very little proof , last week was first proper test around Wales, I'm amazed at the difference the additive made, third to fourth still goes with a littles bump , much less than before , but all the other gear change are so much smoother , hilly sections where I used to use manual now were no problem in auto, as I do more mile it may even improve and hopefully the box wont go POP !
hope this helps Dave

Maybe your experience confirms that preventive maintenance is always the way to go?
I would have oil changed the box when I bought the car, maybe that would have kept it going better?
Thanks for the heads up on the Lucas additive, if my box plays up I'll definitely try it.

Did you do the gearbox oil change yourself?
I have the same car.

I read plenty of scare stories myself , but as my box was in a bad way I thought I had nothing to loose , I added Lucas conditioner , it did improve the changes ( for about 6k miles , then it's effects seem to wear off , I experienced nothing bad happen to the box
Hope this helps Dave
