D5 Euro IV or V compliant
I have a new 2011MY XC90 D5 Auto on order for delivery in UK around mid to late October. I understand it may be Euro IV compliant. However I also understand new cars registered on or after Jan 1 2011 must be Euro V compliant.
Anyone know whether mine will be IV or V compliant? Thanks in advance |

I've just ordered a D5 Manual for delivery in mid Oct - it will be Euro IV.
I was told that the current D5 Euro IV engine will stop production end Sept, and a new EURO V engine will go in factory builds from mid November. The new Euro V will have no manual gearbox option, and a price increase was also mentioned, over and above the cost of the Geartronic auto box. I would guess any mid Oct deliveries will have a Euro IV D5. Best check with your dealer! Chris. |

My car is scheduled for delivery on oct 31st. The new engine is said to have 200bhp, less emissions and better economy for a price rise of £500.
Not sure if anyone can confirm the above but is sounds like waiting 2 or 3 weeks is worth it. |

"You cant factory order the D5 manual anymore! Volvo have announced the new D5 Euro 5 engine for the XC90 Deisel Estate. The bhp on this engine increases from 185bhp to 200bhp. The list price on all D5 models with increase by £500. The new D5 Euro 5 engine will be geartronic (automatic) transmission only. Volvo will discontinue production of the XC90 D5 manual tranmission due to lack of sales." |

Drive the Deal have now also detailed the new engine on their website. Prices are not updated, but the Manual option has gone.
From drivethedeal.com ** PLEASE NOTE THAT OUR PRICES DO NOT REFLECT THE RECENTLY ANNOUNCED MANUFACTURERS PRICE RISE THAT TAKES INTO ACCOUNT THE NEW INCREASED POWER ENGINES ** |

Does anyone have any information on this engine?. Is it a tuned version of the current d5 with 200bhp and 420 Nm or is it a twin turbo like the xc60? Has the gearbox changed? Has the dpf changed to make it euro v? The quoted mpg and emissions are identical but the performance figures are not quoted. It certainly sounds tuned rather than reengineered.
It sounds like it's not worth £3500 extra to move my build date by 2weeks. It certainly makes polestar 205 bhp and 450 Nm look cheap at £550! Last edited by Rentagas; Sep 9th, 2010 at 12:56. |

Just to bring matters up to date. My Volvo dealer advises the XC90 D5 WILL be upgraded to 205bhp shortly. Volvo will not accept orders until 13 September for December onwards delivery. Therefore it appears I am getting one of the last of the 185bhp models. All boils down to how much Direct Line will "penalise" me for the upgrade. The dealer wants £650 for the pleasure.
