Default check diff oil

Blimey - Volvo didn't leave much room for checking the diff oil did they!

Is there any hints and tips for getting to it? Tried my selection of 1/2 and 3/4in socket sets but can't get in there.

And - do I really need a fluid pump to get the oil in there or is there another way?

Not sure about socket, but we use a oil can with the thumb pump leaver to pump it it, makes your thumb hurt if changing oil though not so bad if just topping up.

im sure i used a socket on the fill plug, maybe with an extension, and a ring spanner on the drain bolt.

i used a 1litre oil bottle with a tube out the top. you can use any bottle, say a 500ml water bottle, then cut a hole in the lid and push the tube in then put loads of tape around it. then squeeze like mad! use a tube with an internal diameter of about 10mm or you'll never squeeze it out. if you put the tube to the bottom of the bottle you don't need to tip it.

Anyone know the spec of the diff oil? Or is it some mysterious 'Volvo only' snake oil?
