I fitted some 5 1/4 ones in the back doors of my 940 using a home made adaptor and some in the front using the autoleads ones.

Did you have to use adapters due to the size? They have little tweeters too, do you just take a spur off the leads to the existing speakers?

Default Alpine 1750S

I fitted Alpine 1750S speakers to the front doors, which are 16.5 cm = 6 1/2 in.
Trimmed off excess top and bottom edge from the plastic speaker rim right above and under the speaker cone, so it could fit in place of the smaller old speaker.
Then trimmed enough off the top and bottom edges of the speaker cover so it could slide nicely over the speaker.

Doesn't look very OEM, but does the job perfectly if one keeps their eyes on the road

The ones I used had the tweeters built in. I think you would normally fit a crossover to stop the bass killing the tweeters. I don't know a huge amount about it all really.

Here is a link to the thread I started about the rear speakers http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=159767
