Good suggestion about copper nuts. Cannot remember what are fitted on my 940 but I think that they are steel. I didn’t give it any thought when I had the cylinder head off all those years ago to have a helicoil fitted in no. 4 plug hole. On reflection, maybe I should have considered it. My Marina had steel nuts on the manifold to head studs but copper nuts on the exhaust to manifold studs. New ones required each time and very careful with the tightening as it was easy to strip the threads in the nut.

The other option is stainless steel nuts and studs assemled with copper grease on the bits you don't want to seize through heat. Copper grease is also good for the manifold to head and downpipe gaskets, it helps them "wiggle" around and find their gas-tight position as you tighten things with the engine warming up and also if you ever have to remove them in the future, makes life much easier!

Also good on the rest of the exhaust sytem gaskets and/or sleeve joints, makes life much easier in the long term!

How much?????? Never mind the postage, that's a rip-off!

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/M8-COPPER...M/121568896426

27.5p each including postage!

One thing to watch though, what thread are the exhaust studs? If they're M8 x 1.25, these will fit, if they're M8 x 1.0 (standard M8 thread so a test can be done with a normal M8 nut) then i'll have to have another look.

Seriously though, the stuff is out there without having to pay dealer or specialist prices for consumables/sundries.

The nut fits the stud but annoyingly it doesn't give thread pitch. I would guess it's standard 1.25

Do you mean a normal M8 nut that would fit almost anywhere else on the car fits it Mark? If so then it is standard M8 x 1.0mm, coars is M8 x1.25 according to all standards i've ever known.

Annoyingly, standard M10 is 1.5 so M10 x 1.25 is in fact fine thread!

My mistake then Dave. I thought standard M8 thread was 1.25

Get yourself a small thread gauge (a bit like a set of feeler gauges but, smaller). They are very cheap and over the years it will be amazing how useful they are not only for cars.
