OK not my V70 but my C70 a 2004 reg but 2005 model with around 40K genuine miles on the clock. Changed the power steering fluid for the third time in six months since buying as the dealer had topped it up with red ATF!!! Replaced the swollen reservoir - the old stuff came out green and no moans and groans from the rack so hoping things have survived.

I also did the first oil and filter change since buying the car. The oil was still OK, but I doubt if the filter had been changed for some time. What came out of the plastic casing was a completely cage separated and broken Guttmann filter that had adhered so the bottom of the casing. Looking at the bits I suspect that the filter broke as the casing was unwound. Whoever the previous changer of the oil filter was had severely over tightened the casing as it required significant force to break the seal. The filter "paper" was extremely brittle but judging by the contents of the corrugations had been filtering the old oil.

V70 tomorrow if it isn't raining.

I'll bet some poor underling in a grossly incompetent shop was saddled with the task of changing the oil in that vehicle without the benefit of correct parts.
The thinker in charge wasn't going to buy any cartridge filter due to their higher price.
Some random hunka junk (possibly extracted from a larger canister filter) was crammed in there-trimmed to fit and slathered with a "sealer".

...and I did a transmission drain and fill today.

Replaced the bootlid gas struts, so now the bootlid doesn't come down like a grand piano falling from 6 storeys.

Swapped the indicator with the broken clip out for one that isn't broken. Found the source of the annoying buzzing in the engine bay - knackered headlight wiper motor, so disconnected both and sealed the plugs up to prevent water ingress, as they're pretty pointless anyway.

So quite a lot done on my V70 yesterday sorting out some niggles.
  • Passenger side headlight motor replaced for a good used one.
  • Fuel filler flap locking solenoid diagnosed with stripped teeth on the black cog, I need to source a replacement.
  • Replacement centre console side trim fitted.
  • Vacuum system tested - both vacuum mounts are in need of replacement and I have an issue with the D5 popping noise still, brake servo or pump issue? Please see my other thread!
  • Replacement boot tool kit fitted (was missing on purchase).
  • PAS reservoir leak fixed by flipping the cap seal (thanks SiRobb!). Lots of cleaning up in the engine bay further to that too.
  • Replacement headlight wiper blades fitted.
  • Isofix bracket fitted.

Nearly there with the niggles, I'm very pleased with the car (if anyone wants me to do a thread on my car then I'd be happy to!).

I think I'll fit my GROM bluetooth kit today

Oh, and does anyone know if the DTSC (?) switch is supposed to have a backlight? If so is the bulb replaceable or do I need a new switch? Thanks!

Talking Made a V70R run again :-)

On saturday a friend of mine called, his new (old) 2005 V70R wouldn't rrun anymore.
The dealer towed it to the garage and for 2 days it stays there, somtimes the engine turns, somtime not, no faults are stored, at least they give up :-(
Could be the key, or the ring antenna or the imobilizer or..... he was told.
I told him to come over if the R would start.
He came half an hour later. I tryed a restart, nothing happens, battery seems in a good condition, all electronics work, so i pulled out the FMA4 relais and shortend the 30 and 87 contacts.
In this case the starter must turn, ignition on or not, it doesn't.
I checked the acceleration wire (clamp 50) at the starter Solenoid, heavyly corroded, cleaned it and rrroooaaar, the R runs again.
2 days at the Stealer wouldn't fix the Problem (known as an issue to the whiteblocks), after 5 minutes at a amateur the problem was gone.

Well-done.. Another good example of careful and methodical troubleshooting fixing the problem - especially where it is something electrical that is involved.
