Default MOT passed

Failed the MOT last week on the handbrake. OS was '204' and NS was '23'.

Axle seal leaking. Cleaned up the disc and shoes with almost a whole can of IPA and took it back this morning (parked around the corner and took off the disc and cleaned it again just to make doubly sure) and now passed. Think the tester said the OS was now '184' and the NS was '175'.

Parked next to a brand new hybrid V60 whilst there. Pretty much exactly the same length but it's a bit of a fatty at over 600lbs heavier than the 940!

Congratulations on the pass, hopefully you can sort that axle leak ASAP and normal service will be resumed.

Out of those two Volvo's I know which I'd choose for every sort of journey going and it isn't the white one!

There's an old thread here that's been resurrected a few times that offers some useful pointers about axle seal replacement.

Congratulations on the pass .is that your main Dealer who does your MOT ?
I know my parts manager well but never taken my 940 there for any work .before my current car I used to get a basic service done on my then 240 estate in the 90s I used to take my own oil think it was a Duchams type long time ago now

I always wonder about taking mine to the main dealer, frankly if anything is wrong with mine I would rather know. However I am always worried that with them seeing 1-5 year old cars with low mileages (generally) they will start failing my 125k 10 year old wagon.

Congrats Baggy! 940 looks great.

Talking about old and new Volvos, I was a bit miffed in Tescos the other day when I heard a staff member say about my 940 'That funny old car of hers makes me laugh'. I still think a 940 looks great from the front and side, not dated imo. Back lights date the rear a bit I think, even with my rear spoiler with high viz brake light my car looks dated from the back I think.

I’ve had my main dealer do my last couple of MOTs on my petrol 940. They’re super thorough and their MOT tester is one of their Master Mechanics who was doing PDIs on 2/7/900 series cars when they were new. Passed last time with no advisories whatsoever! Prep is key of course, but I feel that when Volvo pass my car, it’s good to go.

Contrast that with my local independent MOT tester who failed my diesel 940 twice on stuff that I disagreed with entirely, as I mentioned here at the time. Will take all my cars to Volvo from now on!

Yeah, they know me as I've only ever taken it there since I purchased the car brand new in October 2010 (with 110,000 run-in miles...).

11 MOTs, 3 fails (the other two fails were bulbs above front indicators not working in 2011 and the handbrake cable snapped during the test in 2019).
