Default Bi-Xenon D2R bulbs

My SR has different colour D2R bulbs - One is very blue and the other is pinky/blue due to ageing bulbs. So driving at night is a little interesting as the light output is somewhat reduced and it now being winter and darker mornings and evenings I want to see clearly.

Instead of paying the dealer £90 per bulb plus labour to fit, I was contemplating buying some 'ebay specials' and fitting them. Although that is another problem, fitting them.

Advise please.

I recently changed the sidemarker and sidelight bulbs on my P2.5 with bi-xenons with the headlights (and hence bumper) in place, and I suspect that you could do the D2Rs too.

Of course it might be less hassle to just remove the bumper than to play the ninja fingers game! Just thought I'd mention that it's probably worth a try if the bumper seems daunting.

cheers

James

getting the bumper off actually wasn't too bad a job.

In total i think i took about 2 hours.

No doubt could have done it quicker if i knew what i was doing and had done it before but that was my 1st time.

having looked at the back of the head light and how delicate it is to get the xenon bulbs in without breaking the tips off, i'm glad i did the bumper off way

yes always take the bumper cover off , and take the headlamp out when changing these bulbs , you cant afford to break the tips off and it is SO easy to do when you are fiddling around not being able to see what you are doing with the light units in place .If the bulb tilts on the way in the tip bangs on the light shield inside the headlamp and breaks .

The removal of the bumper is probably more daunting that it actually is. But since 'Pandamedic' posted up his run of events in removing the bumper, has given me more courage to do it. Watch this space.

It sounds like wise advice when handling the D2Rs, then. I was more commenting that it's possible to change the other bulbs without removing the bumper...and probably easier...although it's marginal!

cheers

Had my car MOT and serviced yesterday. Turned out one of the led sidelights i put in the other month had packed in already. Pffff. The mechanic changed both for me labour free of charge without having to take the bumper off. He took the air filter box out and the ecu box off. Looked quite simple really with a pair of pliers to take bulb out. However for the xenon bulbs, bumper off is better only because them bulbs are pretty delicate and break easier. I broke one just getting the old bulb out when I changed mine

Last week when I popped into my local Volvo garage I enquired about buying two new D2R bulbs and getting them fitted. I am glad I was sitting down. The bill would come to:

£101 plus VAT ea D2R bulb = £123.00
plus Labour 1.2 hours
Almost £300.00

I think not. Going to order some from hids 4 u
