Thanks for resurecting this post,Just what I looked for but didn't find.
I can't comment yet though as I only got it on the road saturday. Does anyone know if there is an equivalent thread on the 200 section as they share a fair bit of components and are still redblocks.Would be interesting to compare the two results. They should be similare as the weights are the same on my 240 and 740 estate,Just a slight difference in the shape.Lol Ones a long flattish wide box and the other is a long thinnish narrow box,,,HeHe. Regards Brian. |

Hi I have already posted on my results on a seperate post but heres the results again.
1990,740GLE 2.3L five speed manual,B230F 116hp at 5400rpm. Quite low horse power in fact only the B200F is lower at 110hp at 5900rpm. I achieved 25.17 miles per gallon.Above average according to the poll.I'm quite happy as my 240SE 2.0L B200F auto is a real drinker. I haven't gone on a long run yet just stop start short journeys which isn't ideal but I can't persuade the wifey that the engine needs a good thirty mile run when I'm only nipping down the shops Lol. The real test will be when I hitch the twin axle twenty one foot caravan on and travel 150miles fully laden.Probably lucky to get 18mpg. Regards Brian. |

My car is a 1996 960 3Ltr 24v (automatic) saloon with 139,000 miles on.
On a run it will return around 29-30mpg with the climate control running continuously (the way I usually have it), or around 32mpg with the climate control switched off. Stan. |

My 98 V90 with the white block 2.9L DOHC 6-cyl rarely gets over 20 mpg; however, there are no 'highway miles' available here, so it's all in town driving.

Model: 745GL
Best MPG (ever, never seen again): 28mpg (US) Usual MPG: 21-23 mpg (US) Model Year: 1989 Engine: B230F The only time I've ever seen above 25 mpg was on a long highway trip where I ran an entire tankful through nonstop at 65-75mph. In daily use, I consider 23mpg very good. I get about 300 miles out of about 14 US gallons, which works out to about 21 1/2 mpg. I filled up this morning (Monday) with $35.00 at $2.61/gallon. I'll need to do it again on Thursday with my commute.

Best I've ever got is 36 mpg cruising gently round Sweden, worst 8 mpg towing a heavy trailer rather too fast (the latter on gas admittedly)

Well I don't get this last time I did my MPG it was 25.17mpg just last week.and did the fill up after 96 miles and I managed to get 29.23mpg.I filled up at the same place, same grade and drove the same. The only difference was the total mileage. This time 96 miles last time it was 129 miles.
Just hope it continues to improve. I changed the rear pads and disks but only covered a small distance since so wouldn't expect it to have made that much difference Regards Brian. |
