Default Boot lid open even though just changed wiring loom?

Hi all,

So I recently had my wiring loom changed no longer than a month ago because my boot closed shut.

Now, at least once a day even though i am driving on smooth roads, my boot decides to unlock itself and give me the warning message of "boot lid open"

Has anyone else had this after a loom change? any ideas what might be causing it?

It is becoming one of those niggly things that is starting to really get on my nerves.

Cheers,

Jason

Sounds more like a dodgy sensor to me. Not sure where it is located but I would guess on the catch or handle area somewhere

Would the sensor cause it to actually unlock?

and do you know if they are expensive?

Cheers

When you say unlock, do you simply mean unlocked or like wide open? If it's just unlock then it must have a micro switch somewhere in the boot handle or lock mech which I think would be the cause. If wide open, then I'd suspect a sticky switch within the actual handle part on the glass boot window.

Hi Matt,

It unlocks the boot and actually opens it, so the boot lid is loose but it doesn't fly open if that makes sense.

My car is an S40.

Cheers.

I would definately say its a faulty switch or handle mech. I would get a second hand one off ebay and swap it out.

did you fit the harness? a was it brand new.

the swich uses ground so if the harness is traped or worn it can sort out to ground and open the boot. check the loom first before wasting any money on a new handle

Hi guys,

Cheers for the replys.

The new wiring loom was actually fitted by a volvo specialist.

My car went in for a service today so I asked them to look at it.

Apparently the locking mechanism was slightly loose so all they did was tighten it, so fingers crossed they have fixed my problem.
