S60 2005 2.0t
Hi,
I have installed a "wireless" reverse camera on my Volvo long time ago and I remember I had some issues with connecting the positive wire to the reverse light ,so I used one of those mini fuse piggy connectors and got mains from the fuse box in the boot. The "disadvantage" of this solution is that it has got constant power, not only while reversing. Negative is connected to the chassis. The display inside the cabin is connected to the 12V cigarette lighter socket, so I need to switch it on manually anyway. However I'm not sure if it's a matter of the kit I've got or perhaps I did something wrong, hence I didn't get any power from the reverse light. Some time later, I started to have issues with random losses of signal from the camera. I don't think that I've got anything that could interfere the signal (just an FM transmitter, but I tried to remove it from the socket and check if it makes any difference, and it didn't). So I bought a relay capacitor, just to see if it helps at all, and tried to connect it today. Unfortunately, no luck again. I used scotch locks to connect camera positive and negative wires with OUT wires from the relay and connected IN negative relay to the chassis and then I tried to connect positive with blue and then green wires ,but there was no power through the relay. Once I connected the positive IN wire with the piggy fuse connector, the power was on, but that's not the solution. First of all, I'm not sure if that filter (relay) will do anything in this scenario. Second of all, I would like the camera to be powered only when in reverse (it even looks silly with the LED camera lights are on while you drive). Has anyone had the same problem and how did you solve it? Regards |

a lot to analyse there and you lost me a bit in the middle
re: supply from reverse light you want to avoid that because you'll end up throwing faults on that circuit. similarly avoid the boot ciggy lighter socket if you prefer no messages on the dash but there is a handy connector in the spare wheel well (or elsewhere in later models) which is the tow hitch connector. 10mins with a volt meter will tell you which pin is which and you can splice into the the wiring behind the plug for reverse, switched live (sidelights) brake lights, permanent live, ground, whatever you want. have someone else sit in the drivers seat operating the controls with a foot on the brake and don't accidentally run yourself over, obvs |

Hi,
Thanks for a prompt reply. I can imagine it may sound confusing, so I will take a picture tomorrow and upload it. I can't check the bottom of the boot since the car had an LPG tank in the spare wheel compartment when I bought it. The display is connected not to the ciggy socket in the front , but the one in the rear (between the front seats). That's the camera I've got https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wireless-Re.../dp/B081FF2G91 It says to connect the negative wire to the chassis and positive to reverse or running light, but it didn't work for me, hence I bought that piggy back fuse connector. Those LED lights next to the camera turn on automatically if it gets darker, so I actually forgot them during summer time, but it gets dark sooner now, so it kind of annoys me that they are on while I drive. However biggest issue is those losses of signal and I hoped that the filter will fix it, but if it gets power from the fuse box, it may no work. On the other hand, I tried to google it, which wire is for the reverse light. I found some results saying it's the blue, some say it's green ,but those topics were related to S60R or V70 etc. Nonetheless, I will take some pictures tomorrow and upload them here, so it makes it more clear what I've done |
