Default 1988 340 1.4 carb problems please help !!

1988 volvo 1.4 has erratic idle wants to cut out will run on choke, the car runs perfect when driven but the idle changes and when you rev the car it wil stay at what you rev it at for few seconds then drop, like its running on ?

Its a weber 32 dir

Doesent appear to be any air leaks but i think the car has been mucked about with so need the standard settings for carb air/fuel mixture ect if someone can point me in the right direction or give me a hand.

Cheers

There will be an orderly queue of people saying the same thing, so here goes:

Anti-run-on solenoid. On side of carb facing windscreen, one lead goes to energise it. When disconnected it shuts off the fuel, if you pull the choke out you by-pass it hence the engine runs.

Check it works by switching ignition on, then dabbing the connector to it - you should hear a click. Also check the rubber sealing washer hasn't perished and allowed air to leak in.

Next, check all round carb for air leaks. Perished hoses, and don't forget the brake vacuum assist. if this leaks, pressing the brake pedal will make a difference to the engine idle. (Also there is a non-return valve inline with it there.)

Carb base can warp. Spray WD40 around it. If the idle improves temporarily, then that's the reason.

Hope this helps.

Make sure there is not too much air coming in the breather restriction at the bottom of the carb, Block the hose at the other end so no air can get in, if that fixes it then check the T-Piece restriction is intact.

The top of the carb comes loose too , and the acellerator pump jet can come loose flooding the engine with fuel everytime you press the throttle .
The weber carb doesnt usualy warp the base , that is reserved for the 1.7 engine carb !
you might simply have a blocked idle jet , on the end of the idle cut off valve ..
